Stick with federal rule for Colorado’s roadless areas

The editorial on Colorado’s roadless petition missed the mark. Western Coloradans are incensed the state petition will not prevent road construction to develop approximately 100 oil and gas leases within inventoried roadless areas. These “gap” leases were unlawfully let without road-building prohibitions by the last administration after implementation of the 2001 federal roadless rule. The leases occupy hundreds of thousands of acres of critical habitat and biologically rich mid-elevation forest that provide clean water for communities and agriculture. Read more…
